Seasonal Operator

The Rural Municipality of Lajord No. 128 is now accepting applications for a seasonal equipment operator, with duties to commence on April 15, 2025 and ending on November 15, 2025 with possible extension, depending on weather. This position has the possibility of turning into full-time.

 

Duties / Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

• operation of municipal equipment such as a grader, mower, truck and trailer, skidsteer, and tractor, for the maintenance and repair of municipal roads;
• general service, maintenance and minor repair of municipal equipment;
• ensuring the equipment is operated in a safe manner;
• manual labour as required for sign installation, culvert maintenance, general shop and yard maintenance;
• other duties as directed by the Manager of Public Works from time to time.

 

Skills and Abilities

• have skills and knowledge in the maintenance & operation of heavy equipment;
• check, lubricate, fuel and clean equipment;
• perform pre-operational checks on equipment;
• be able to work well unsupervised and be a team player;
• be safety minded;
• have good interpersonal skills;
• have strong communication, organization and documentation skills;
• must keep work area clean and safe.

 

Key Notes

Applicants must:

• have a Powered Mobile Equipment (PME) certificate or willing to achieve;
• have WHMIS or be willing to achieve;
• possess a Class G, Class 3 or a 1 A driver’s license;
• be able to lift up to 50 lbs.;
• be willing to be supervised and take direction from the Manager of Public Works.

 

Salary will be negotiated based on experience and qualifications. The RM offers an excellent health and dental plan as well as a pension plan. The qualified applicant will be expected to join Teamsters Local Union No. 395 as an employee with the RM.
