JOB POSTING - MANAGER OF PUBLIC WORKS

The Rural Municipality of Lajord No. 128 invites applications for the full-time permanent out of scope position – Manager of Public Works.  This management position is directly responsible to the Council and Chief Administrative Officer.

This position will interest you if:

  • You look for ways to optimize work through operational efficiencies, new technologies and best practices;
  • Willingness to obtain safety courses and training, as required;
  • Have strong computer skills including but not limited to Outlook, Word and Excel;
  • Can oversee, motivate and mentor public works staff;
  • Provide crew with direction on how to complete the work, monitor progress and provide feedback on results;
  • Support employees by sharing knowledge and troubleshooting challenging situations, provide advice and direction on how to resolve;
  • Provide employees with coaching on how to improve performance and/or address simple workplace issues that arise;
  • Work hours expected – 50 hours per week in summer and 40 hours per week in winter, Monday to Friday, possible weekends dependant on conditions and projects.

 

Preference will be given to someone with the following qualifications/skills:

  • Minimum five (5) to seven (7) years experience supervising in a Public Works environment, experience working in a municipal and/or unionized environment will be considered an asset.
  • Significant experience in municipal infrastructure operation, maintenance, construction and the safe operation of related tools and equipment.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills are vital for success in this position;
  • Strong working knowledge of the principles and practices of HR management and supervision;
  • Willingness to take direction from Chief Administrative Officer and Council and give positive direction to employees;
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Good organizational and record keeping skills;
  • Have experience in working with engineers, contractors and suppliers;
  • Have grade 12 or GED equivalent;
  • Ability to provide a clear Criminal Record Check;
  • Valid Driver’s License.

 

The Rural Municipality of Lajord No. 128 offers a pension plan and benefit package.  The salary is negotiable depending on experience and qualifications.
